New kind of spam; active spamming
Permalink 6 Posted in: PersonalI receive a lot of spam, approximately 20 daily, mostly in 5-6 articles. And I need to admit that I noticed few “intelligent” comments. What are they doing? They post a comment of your content such as “Thanks for this great article”, or “Awesome, thanks, I need to show this to my little brother” or “I was searching this for too long, thanks dude”, and in the webpage link they put a “spam” website.
So, what can you do? Is that really the authors webpage, and the comment is very honest? Or the comment is only there for no-viagra-similar content, and avoid automatic spam filter?
How to know if the comment is real, and not only a spam comment?

Regardless if its really the author’s web page… if the link on the comment takes you to a site that has non-related content to your post you should definitely treat it has spam. Specially if the comment contains complements that are so generic like “Great article”.
Anyway… Great article!!

I think the same, but, do I need to remove all the comment? Not even publish him? Thinking that the comment is there only for that evil link?
Until know, well, I remove the spam link, and leave the comment, if there is more than 10 characters for sure :)

I think you are better off removing the comment even if was a genuine comment. I’m sure people will understand if their post gets removed for being treated has spam. Now days generic comments are a big red flag and everyone should know that by now.
Besides, I think you will have a better blog by making your visitors post interesting discussions/comments rather than those generic “Great”, “Thank you” etc.
